Weight Loss Medications

Following announcements in the media that weight loss medications are 'available on the NHS', we are experiencing a big increase in requests for these medications.
We would like to request that patients do NOT contact your GP to check your eligibility as these medications will not be available in Derbyshire until later on in the year.
Once the referral pathways in Derbyshire open, there will be strict eligibility criteria set out by the NHS and the number of patients eligible in the first phase is expected to be very small. Eligibility for referrals will be set out in phases over the next 3 years.
In Phase 1 (2025-2026), patients must have a BMI of 40 or more AND at least four of the following diagnosed health conditions:
• Type 2 Diabetes
• High Blood Pressure
• Heart Disease
• Obstructive Sleep Apnoea
• Abnormal Blood Fats (Dyslipidaemia).
In the meantime, if you are struggling with your weight and would like support, you can self refer to Live Life Better Derbyshire who offer many services including weight loss support.
Live Life Better Derbyshire will also be able to refer eligible patients for weight loss medications once they become available in Derbyshire. You can self refer for these services and you do not need to contact your GP to access them.
More information regarding Derbyshire's plans to roll out weight-loss medications can be found on the Joined Up Care Derbyshire Website:

1st September 2024- New Appointment System

The way we book our appointments is changing from the 1st September 2024.

This is to manage the current increase in demand as well as making the whole process a more streamlined and manageable experience for both patients and staff.

From this date all acute requests we receive will be booked an appointment on the day or signposted to out of hours dependant on capacity.
All routine requests will be sent a booking link to book an appropriate time within the following 2 weeks of the request.

If we feel your request would be better suited to another service, we will signpost this appropriately and inform you.
