Nurse Practitioners

Our Nurse Practitioners triage all patients who request an appointment and allocate them to the appropriate clinician. NP’s work independently and generally consult patients with on the day requests and are also able to prescribe medicines.

Nurse Denise Barratt (f)

Denise came to us three years ago and has a background in Accident & Emergency. She is local to the area and can also be found working at the Out of Hours unit in New Mills.

Usual working days: Monday, Thursday, Friday

Nurse Penny Munro (f)

Penny has been a member of the Thornbrook team for over five years and has recently taken on the additional role of overseeing our patients in local care homes.

Usual working days: Tuesday, Wednesday

Mr Martin Longden (m)

(Paramedic Practitioner) Having worked for East Midlands Ambulance Service for a number of years, Martin then moved to working in the community at the local Minor Injuries Unit. After completing training to prescribe medicines, he began working with us here at Thornbrook as well as the Out of Hours unit in New Mills.

Specialist Nurses

Ms Karen Hughes (f)

Karen is our respiratory nurse specialist and works one day a fortnight carrying out specialist clinics for patients with long term respiratory conditions. She spends the rest of her time working in respiratory clinics in the Manchester area and other GP surgeries.

Usual working days: alternate Thursdays


Our practice nurses carry out various tasks to help patients with their long term health care needs, including: blood tests, cervical smear tests, treating wounds, administering vaccinations and reviewing long term conditions.

Nurse Trish Longden (f)

Trish joined Thornbrook in 2004 after working as a Practice Nurse at other local surgeries. She specialises in diabetes, coronary heart disease and runs the travel clinics. Trish is also the Practice Community Matron and cares for patients in the community with complex care needs.

Nurse Tracey Hunt (f)

Tracey specialises in asthma, COPD and ladies healthcare. She also runs our childhood immunisation clinics.

Usual working days: Tuesday, Thursday, Friday

Healthcare Assistants

Our HCA’s work closely with our Practice Nurses and help run our blood clinics, as well as taking blood pressures, carrying out ECGs and minor wound care.

Miss Debbie Skae-Bradburn (f)

Debbie has worked at Thornbrook for over 12 years having previously worked as a HCA in hospitals. She also has a diploma in Clinical Healthcare Support.

Ms Gabbie Bartlett (f)

Gabbie has recently completed her HCA training with us at Thornbrook Surgery after many years working in pharmacies. She shares the role of HCA/Admin Assistant with Jackie.
